How often is treatment needed?

This is very much a case-by-case decision, various factors come into consideration such as the intensity, type and level of exercise and the animals individual conformation, which will affect how easily they can cope with his or her workload.

McTimoney Chiropractic treatments can help to prevent injury by highlighting areas under increased strain and compensatory patterns while the issue is still quite minor, before a more serious problem becomes apparent. Of course there is benefit of rebalancing the musculoskeletal system so that the body is able to work in an as efficient way as possible maximising range of motion, muscle function and flexibility.

Horses and dogs in high levels of competition may require monthly or 6 weekly appointments to keep optimal performance, while those competing in medium work will benefit from 3 monthly appointments while horses and dogs with a more leisurely lifestyle will be fine with 6 monthly or annual check ups.

Of course animals with health conditions, conformational deficits may need more frequent treatments even if they don't "work".

Ideally after your first appointment a follow up appointment will be required to see how well the adjustments hold over a short period of time, which will then give an indication as to how often treatment will be required. Of course we will also work with owners own circumstances, lots of people may love to have more regular treatments but it may push finances, I'm more than happy to discuss the best balance. I never push my treatments to be more often than needed. Don't forget if you animal is under vet referral for a condition you are claiming on your insurance then complimentary therapies are often covered!
